This week was the start of BMX in the Olympics - did you catch it? We sure as hell didn't. Here in the states NBC aired the quarterfinal heats from somewhere around 1 to 3am giving nobody the chance to see local boy and favorite Kyle Bennett take on the world at "HellTrack: Made in China Edition". Despite dislocating his shoulder after colliding with another rider, Bennett managed to qualify for the finals that will air at some god-knows-what time. For a perspective on the size of the dirt ramps these guys are hitting, check out the
"small" rhythm section. Christ on a crutch those ain't small!
Neil Harrington & I grew up racing with Kyle at Armadillo Downs in Conroe, TX just outside of Houston. He was one of the first people I saw that truly had The Skills on a BMX bike. Like buttery-ass-smooth skills. The Blue Falcon will attest this as they were known to hang out at 'The Yard' (Bennett's backyard trails) testing their lap times & lung endurance.
Anyways, best of luck Kyle! Mutiny & the 9th St. crew are rooting for you. Bring home the gold. - Aron Hoag (29 Novice)
